This sketch (titled "The Stoke Hole") was drawn in 1883 when the Square Box Boilers were being replaced. It shows one of the locally made Cylindrical Boilers mouseover on main image being installed in Cerberus' single boiler room. The boiler room took up the Hold & Lower Decks as far as height was concerned.

8 mouseovers. men, top 2 cylinders in boiler, floor & dots.

Below the floor of mouseover on main image the Hold Deck was a compartment that could be filled with water (474 tons) so as to lower the profile of the ship.

Engraving from the Illustrated Australian News, 21 March 1883. sponsored by Greg Curzon-Siggers.
