From Geo. Touzel, of the Senior Cadet Battalion Band, requesting that permission be granted to the following bands to give a performance in the Railway reserve, Footscray on Sunday. May 26th, in aid of the family of A. McArthur, late of the Naval Brigade, who are left in destitute circumstances :-Victoria Naval Brigade Band, North Melbourne Artillery Band, Senior Cadet Battalion Band, and Footscray and E. Brunswick Bands numbering in all about 100 performers, and under the baton of Bandmaster Short. - Permission granted.

* 1853 is given as the commencement date for the Victorian Navy as this is the year that Commander Lockyer (RN) went to Britain to superintend the building of HMCS Victoria. Although the Victorian Navy ended in 1901 the career of Cerbeus etc continued. In 1910 the new ships started arriving & manning levels increased.
