Enlisted in the Victorian Navy as Trainee Seaman 19th July 1901.
Able Seaman 16th December 1901 and to HMVS Cerberus.
Public Records Office Series B5520 to 5524.
George's alleged brother Albert Arthur Gibbs was Commander Tickel's servant and died on the Hospital Ship Carthage on the 18th October 1800.
Albert's, and most likely George's parents, Robert William and Elizabeth Jane, had six children, the only boys being Albert (1883 to 1900), Robert William John (1888 to 1952)
and Henry James (1892 to 1970).

* 1853 is given as the commencement date for the Victorian Navy as this is the year that Commander Lockyer (RN) went to Britain to superintend the building of HMCS Victoria. Although the Victorian Navy ended in 1901 the career of Cerbeus etc continued. In 1910 the new ships started arriving & manning levels increased.
