Address: Graham Street, Sandridge, Victoria.
Wife: Mrs Rebecca (nee REYNOLDS). Service Outline:
Enlisted in the Victorian Navy in Sandridge 20th March 1871 and to Sandridge Division Depot. Paid 5 shillings to quarter ended 31st March 1871. All subsequent quarters noted and apparently no sea service and no remarks such as sickness, absence or appearance before an officer. Typically paid 3 pounds for quarter with about 39 hours worked on average. Discharged 31st March 1885 and conduct described throughout as Very Good.
Remarks: Described as dark eyes, 70 inches tall and dark complexion. Noted parents Henry Herman and Ann PANDT. Noted children William, Margaret, Charles, Charles, Sarah, Edith and Emma. (Two sons named Charles as one died soon after birth). Died in 1899 in Port Melbourne, Victoria. Searched in National Archives of Australia Series B1115, B5520, 5522, 5523, 5524, 5531, 5532, 5534, 5494, 5495, 5519, 5492 and 5493
plus Naval Brigade records circa World War One and Police Gazettes.

* 1853 is given as the commencement date for the Victorian Navy as this is the year that Commander Lockyer (RN) went to Britain to superintend the building of HMCS Victoria.
Although the Victorian Navy ended in 1901 the career of Cerbeus etc continued. In 1910 the new ships started arriving & manning levels increased.
