Mr. Wm. J. NICOL. ·After an illness of five weeks, Mr Wm. Joseph Nicol, of 187 Nelson place, passed away on Wednesday last. Born at Williamstown, he was the son of the late Capt. William. Nicol, of Glasgow, and Mrs Mary Nicol, of Footscray, and was 60 years of age. He leaves a widow and five sons, three being at present on active service and one lately returned. Deceased was a chief engineroom artifier of the Royal Australian Navy, and was in the old Victorian Navy, serving altogether 33 years in the Navy, retiring some 18 months ago. The deceased was given a naval funeral on Thursday, the remains being interred in the local cemetery. The massive oak casket was carried to the grave by four of his old shipmates;' Messrs W. Freeman; W. Davis, T. Francombe, J. Lyon, W. Dorgan, H. J. Wigley, W.Rolley and S. Blair. Bev. Father Gellie, of St. Mary's church, conducted the service at the grave, and Mr. E. W Jackson (manager for Mr. Thos. Lonasale) carried out the funeral arrangements.
