On 24 May 1902 the Cerberus Logbook reported "Joseph Smith AB N.B. reports having injured his left **** getting out of the train. During investigation it transpired that this happened on the 26th April 02. No official report has been received here, but J. Smith states that he mentioned it to Patchett Sick Bayman on that date. On reporting the accident today he was examined by Comdr. Richardson, Lieut. Biddlecombe, Lieut Miller and Sickbayman. We are all agreed he was under the influence of liquor. Sickbayman reports there is nothing broken and no sign of abrasion. Mr Hayes also reports that since 26th April 02 J. Smith has attended the drillroom in the following dates and made no further complaint. J. Smith did not do any drill today." |
* 1853 is given as the commencement date for the Victorian Navy as this is the year that Commander Lockyer (RN) went to Britain to superintend the building of HMCS Victoria. Although the Victorian Navy ended in 1901 the career of Cerbeus etc continued. In 1910 the new ships started arriving & manning levels increased.
Information & photographs of men who served in the Victorian Naval Forces is eagerly sought. Please contact the webmaster.P0WERED by: DaDaBIK
