Inquiry held into charge of insulting behaviour by Captain Fullarton against Lieutenant Dennis

The Argus, 15 and 16 January 1884


 

On 3 May 1886 The Argus reported that Lieutenant G. F. Dennis piloted the Russian warship Vestnik down the bay.

Listed in the Victorian Defence Forces List, Naval Branch, 1 January 1890.


 

Sea Pilot for 26 years until 1904 when license cancelled after the grounding of the SS Australia.

Emma Georgina Dennis (nee Queenie), wife died 19 April (year unreadable) aged 40 years. Buried in the Williamstown Cemetery.

* 1853 is given as the commencement date for the Victorian Navy as this is the year that Commander Lockyer (RN) went to Britain to superintend the building of HMCS Victoria.
Although the Victorian Navy ended in 1901 the career of Cerbeus etc continued. In 1910 the new ships started arriving & manning levels increased.
