J. H. MacKinnon
DEATH OF MR J. H. MACKINNON
Local residents learned with sincere regret this week of the death of Mr. J. H. MacKinnon, of Orbost. Mr MacKinnon had been under medical treatment for about two years for heart disease, but was able to attend to business almost up till the last. The death, however, of his son, Peter, at the war had a great effect upon him and he was never so well afterwards. About a week ago he took a rapid change for the worse and on Wednesday morning he passed away suddenly at the age of 63.
Mr MacKinnon was born at Brodick, Isle of Arran (Scotland). He was a sailor for some years, and came to Australia 35 years ago as first mate on the "Port Chalmers." Some time after he was attached to the Victorian Navy, being in charge of the magazines on the "Cerberus." For some years he was in charge of the National Park at Mount Buffalo. He was also for some time supervisor of Government work on the Mount Buffalo road, and also in this district.
Mr MacKinnon came to Orbost about four years ago, and during that time he earned the respect and esteem of all sections of the conmunity. He leaves a daughter and two sons. His youngest son was killed at the war and the eldest is there now. The second son is a resident of this district. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, when the remains were interred in the Orbost Cemetery.
