On 2 January 1876 the Cerberus log recorded G Bevan, fireman, having hurt himself, by falling through the Shield Deck dead light, was sent to the Success for rest.


 

On 21 july 1879 the Cerberus log recorded that George Bevan, stoker, fractured an arm.


 

To George Bevan, late Stoker on board the Cerberus, for personal injury sustained whilst in the execution of his duty...

 

Gratuity on discharge, as no longer fit for duty—period of service from 6th May 1874 to 16th July 1880—rate of wages 5s. per diem, being at the rate of one month's pay for each year and portion of a year's service, £46 14s. 8d....

* 1853 is given as the commencement date for the Victorian Navy as this is the year that Commander Lockyer (RN) went to Britain to superintend the building of HMCS Victoria.
Although the Victorian Navy ended in 1901 the career of Cerbeus etc continued. In 1910 the new ships started arriving & manning levels increased.
