As part of Heritage Week, Friends of the Cerberus, in conjunction with the City of Bayside, will celebrate the 140th anniversary on Sunday April 17 of the arrival of HMVS Cerberus in Port Phillip Bay.
Artefacts, photographs and interpretive material will be on display at Half Moon Bay, Black Rock. Free return boat trips around Cerberus with commentary aboard HMVS Destiny will leave from the jetty throughout the day. John Wood will talk about the importance of Cerberus at 11.00 am and unveil a replica projectile mounted on the seawall. The Victorian Navy Re-enactors will defend those in attendance with their rifles and six pounder field gun from Russian, American, Confederate and French invaders. Festivities will commence at 10.00 am on Sunday April 17. Half Moon Bay, Black Rock is on Melways Map 85 H2 and is a 25 minute walk from the Sandringham Railway Station along a scenic coastal path.
